When and how do you experience flow?

Written by Stuart Haden on May 28, 2014

Personally the path to being authentic needs to be a natural one. One in which we embrace the laws of nature, so that we can harness energy and vitality. But how do we know when we get there? The work of Csikszentmihalyi (Cheek-sent-me-hi-ee) has always led me to describing these states as flow. Now with the help of the Flow Genome Project I have contemporary resources for describing flow states. Ones that I hope you too will be inspired by.

The Flow Genome project describes itself as ‘The official source for flow states and culture.’ Delving deeper these stats stuck with me – executives in flow are five times more effective, and they achieve these states for 15% of their working time. We don’t get there often, but when we do the results are extraordinary. The flow state is therefore a worthwhile destination, so let’s make sure we increase the odds of not only taking the trip, but spending more time there.

I wanted to share these resources with you quickly, the Project has answered two questions – what is flow and why is it so addictive? Although I must confess I perhaps haven’t found the answer to the question – how do we achieve flow states? I know my work of energy mapping contributes in this area, but for now I have more questions than answers. I was however blown away by their video content, intellectual on the one hand – visually and emotionally resonant on the other. Perhaps this is where the answer lies. Or more accurately the answer lies within me as it does you. Here are some great videos try out The Art of Flow video. Maybe a wave or a mountain is all we need to get  there…
