The Authenticity Experience – Hack #4: INSPIRATION

Written by Stuart Haden on March 19, 2015

My stated aim is to ‘hack authenticity and open source it for all’ and in doing so I embody this hack, by combining my passions and outcomes. This hack appears simple enough, but it is designed to combat a pitfall of modern day society. Many of us think we make the connection between passions and outcomes, yet we sometimes missed the point entirely.

Hack 4 - Inspiration

You need to be really precise when you map out what you are passionate about. Make sure you identify this correctly and really get to the core of what is important to you. I used to work in outdoor development, naturally many people who work in this industry are passionate about the outdoors. But making a simple connection between this and an outcome (such as a job in the outdoors) is sometimes a trap. The best rock climbers, don’t always make the best instructors.

I too am passionate about the outdoors, but when I search deeper personal development and the influences of nature are also really important to me. When I work as a coach or leadership facilitator I can find deep satisfaction in what I do, even if we are cooped up in a hotel for the day. Thus the activity that you are interested in always has a deeper narrative worth exploring. Then you will avoid the pitfall of turning your hobby into a job, where people no longer find satisfaction in either their hobby or their job!?
