Introducing – What To Do When It’s Your Turn by Seth Godin

Written by Stuart Haden on August 4, 2015

Seth Godin is a prolific writer and alternative thinker. His library of books are a sight to behold and when I heard about his new project I was hooked. What To Do When It’s Your Turn (and it’s always your turn) challenges the norm. It’s a full colour book in the form of a magazine, provoking and beautiful. And if that wasn’t enough Godin has encouraged us to consider buying multiple copies at a discounted price so that we can share them with friends and colleagues. My sharing stats are encouraging – 1 book shared, 1 hug received, 3 copies left.

I read the book in a two hour sitting, I couldn’t put it down – a flow state of inspiration where nothing else seemed to matter. As I finished I looked forward to the next reading, I know this book will be on my shelf for some time. What did I learn? Mmmm, not sure if I am honest – it’s not that sort of book. Principles, models and theories are replaced by an energy of encouragement, belief and creativity.

I can cite the benefits of reading this book though – the very next day I sat down to write my second book. After three years in the writing wilderness I have clarity once more. Godin has encouraged me to follow my dream, find freedom, be innovative and take my ideas to market. “Yes, it’s personal. Can we just say that out loud? When it’s your turn. You own it. Your choice. Your freedom. Your responsibility.”
