Introducing – The Art of Possibility by Zander & Zander

If you are operating as a coach then somewhere along your journey you will need to define your approach. Influenced by ontological coaching on the one hand this book kick started my  approach to narrative coaching. Zander and Zander quickly remind us that “all of life comes to us in narrative form; it’s a story we tell.” It’s all invented so you might as well step into the universe of possibility.

Perhaps more philosophical than practical the authors weave a wonderful story, peppered with case studies and their personal observations (family therapist and conductor of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra). Notice how you can credit others and be a contribution, give way to passion and light a spark. And their framework for possibility?

1)    Make a new distinction in the realm of possibility: one that is a powerful substitute for the current framework of meaning that is generating the downward spiral.

2)    Enter the territory.  Embody the new distinction in such a way that it becomes the framework for life around you.

3)    Keep distinguishing what is ‘on the track’ and what is ‘off the track’ of your framework for possibility.
