If you are authentic then you create a different type of energy. Knowing how to harness this energy is vital particularly if what you’ve created leads to high performance. A great book in this area is Zor by JB, as it integrates fiction and non fiction. Zor a Haitian Dwarf leads John Brewster on a journey of self discovery into the realms of positive energy. Like John there are lessons for us all when the two lead characters meets at Jakes Bar in

As we approach the Christmas and New Year period it is a good time to round up the blogs from this year. There are 7 in all that have made the list – mostly because they have got you talking, defined my approach to hacking authenticity and brought great resources and people to our attention. But in short they all go a long way to answering my meta question – what makes someone show up as being truly authentic?
NY’s resolutions

Well it’s not every day that you find yourself sandwiched in between David Clutterbuck and Marshall Goldsmith. Not literally of course but I have just had my second article published in the Worldwide Coaching Magazine with the gurus of coaching and leadership contributing also. The magazine was recognised as one of the world’s top 3 coaching publications in the recent Sherpa Survey, and with a stated aim of ‘In depth knowledge, outspoken opinions’ it resonated with me immediately.
This months theme is all

In this short video (2:38) I reflect on some participant feedback that I received earlier in the day. Feedback is just feedback. There is no good and bad, only thought makes this so. However, this was certainly an encouraging message.
After reflecting on the feedback I wondered if the recipes of success were down to the energy that I brought, the precision of the workshop and the stretch I intended for participants.
Whatever my perception, it is really important to reflect on

A few months ago I was driving home on the back of running a workshop based on my book (It’s Not About The Coach). On the one hand I was really excited having taken the written (and sometimes intuitive) word and created a more practical face to face event.
On the other hand I realised that in order to spread the message of the book (getting the most from coaching) I had to create a Delivery Tribe to take the workshop

Are you and your team agile enough to change? If you are then you’re probably making great progress and embodying organisational culture. In this short video (3:07) I compare the profile of the beach in the same way we can look at organisations and culture.
Culture is energy. On the beach the energy comes from the left hand side, therefore, the majority of the pebbles on the beach are found on the right hand side. A very straightforward observation, yet the

Just about everything I do in life has a purpose – a run, a project, a posting, a conversation. I encourage people to live on purpose, this is at the source of being authentic. Sometimes we know that too much purpose doesn’t serve us. Too much thinking, too much strategy, too much planning.
Being without purpose can sometimes scare us. So to practice what I preach I spent 4 minutes and 45 seconds without purpose. It was scary, but there was

Hopefully you’ve been enjoying and learning from my recent postings based on my experiences of putting together The Seven Secrets of Authenticity as a online course. I have successfully mapped and hacked authenticity so that you can quickly access it. To borrow a phrase from the tech world my aim is to now open source this information.
This vid now reveals these secrets, but don’t be surprised if you know some of them already…
1) IDENTITY – aligning yourself.
2) INNER – skillfully

If you aren’t asking yourself enough questions then you probably aren’t being authentic. Questions dominate human development, whilst accepting the norm is a form of human domestication. So avoid the traps and question your way out of trouble.
Use your imagination to make sure you are headed in the right direction asking my favourite question of all time – who are you being?
Then if you experience any (internal or external) barriers simply ask yourself – how do you know (what you

When I recorded The Seven Secrets of Authenticity online course it gave me the opportunity to explore compliance and defiance in detail. Recognising that authenticity relies on exploring our inner values and demonstrating them in the external environment skilfully. It’s this final word that is so important. If we aren’t skilful then we often end up being compliant or defiant neither of which brings long lasting results.
If we ignore or suppress our values too often then we are compliant. Have
